The King's wife makes some very unusual deals with the King Under Stone. Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica Day George is a very eventful twist to the 12 Dancing Princesses Fairytale. Bloomsbury Publishing 288 pages. However, Princess of the Midnight Ball left me vaguely disappointed. That might be why I liked Princess of the Midnight Ball the most--because it's more classic, and yet still gives a good feel for what the book is about. I love a good retelling of a classic fairy tale, and Jessica Day George's Princess of the Midnight Ball is one of the best. The Brothers Grimm were favorites of mine as I always had a lust for the dark side of stories. Full confession time: I had previously read this book, along with the sequel, Princess of Glass. About 90% of the story doesn't feel like a re-telling of The Twelve Dancing Princesses, but rather just expanding upon the basic facts of the story. I'm not big on Fantasy novels, and the covers are often loud or confusing. Princess of the Midnight Ball My second retelling was Jessica Day George's Princess of the Midnight Ball. To me this is a truly amazing retelling of one of my favorite childhood stories.
